| BHS Champions: OC Times OC Times formed in the spring of 2003 and placed 18th out of 52 quartets in their first Barbershop Harmony Society international quartet competition. The quartet updated its image in January 2005 when Cory Hunt replaced Drew Harrah as the bass singer. With coaching by barbershop veteran Mark Hale, they dressed more casually and broadened their repertoire with non-traditional songs. OC Times' subsequent international competition placement jumped to 5th, 3rd, then 2nd before they won the championship in 2008. |

Since then they have had ‘serious’ fun and have sung at various events and competitions throughout the UK and Ireland. In 2005 Havoc entered the LABBS competition for the first time and became national bronze medalists, in 2006 they won silver then followed up this year in Bournemouth by winning the Gold Medal and being awarded the highest marks in the Music and Presentation categories. |

Zero8 chorus from Stockholm, Sweden The group took form in 2006 under the initiative of Chorus Director Doug Harrington. From the beginning the goal has been to build up a young “fresh” men’s chorus with the ability to master different musical styles at a consistently high level. To master different genres means in practice that the chorus should sound like a jazz ensemble when singing jazz, so that in the next moment deliver a barbershop song on a world-class level, or a traditional Bellman drinking song in the Swedish choral style. Many of the chorus members are guys in their twenties who have recently completed their training (or are still studying) at one of Stockholm’s music schools. A varied repertoire includes music written by Eric Clapton, Carl-Michael Bellman and Curtis Mayfield, but with a certain emphasis on barbershop |

Musical Island Boys, Wellington, New Zealand Kia Ora, Talofa Lava, Kia Orana, Faka alofa lahi atu & Warm Pacific Greetings From the other "down under" the Wellington, New Zealand based quartet Musical Island Boys who are a certifiable barbershop boy band phenomenon. Winners of many N.Z. awards the quartet won top honors and gold medals in Indianapolis (06) in the Barbershop Society International College Championship, the first non US quartet to win in the history of the competition. And it's easy to see why these lads have done so well when you hear their excellent renditions of the arrangements of Ed Waesche, David Wright and Joe Liles. All four singers are of Pacific Islander heritage including Samoan and Maori and perhaps it's the great tradition of singing in their cultures that give them the special touch they so clearly demonstrate. |

In June of that same year, after just three such rehearsal weekends, the quartet won the AAMBS Western Region quartet contest with a record high score. Later that year the boys traveled to Christchurch, New Zealand to take part in the Pan Pacific Quartet Competition against an international field of groups from New Zealand, Hawaii, the West Coast of America, Japan and other parts of Australia and were awarded the Silver Medal.
