                   Alan Goldsmith

Alan was elected chairman of BABS for the calendar years 2009 and 2010.  In brief, he’s been singing barbershop for some ten years having first joined the Lincoln club and then, upon retiring from paid work, becoming a dual member at East Midlands.  Singing with two choruses brings twice the enjoyment and twice the satisfaction, but also twice the number of songs to learn!  He has held club positions of chairman, treasurer and public relations officer and has also been able to help the National Barbershop Youth Chorus as it has developed.  Outside barbershop he has been chairman of the British Police Symphony Orchestra - yes there is one, check out their website - which may give a clue as to his previous occupation.

<Grand Central Chorus
BABS Chorus Champion for 2012

The Grand Central Chorus is an enthusiastic group of about forty men who enjoy singing together in the four-part close-harmony barbershop style.

Our main reason for singing is entertainment, both for our audiences and ourselves, but we also take part in competitions from time to time. Over the years the chorus has enjoyed considerable success, for example, winning the gold medal on five occasions at the UK National Barbershop Convention – winning our latest one at Southport in May 2012. In fact, the chorus has never been out of the top few positions in all the years it has been eligible to compete in this competition. Consequently the chorus has travelled to the USA on several occasions to represent the UK at the International Convention.
